Catherine G. Nest
March 3, 1925 ~ December 5, 2015
Nest, Catherine Grace – affectionately known as “Kay ” of Fort Lee age 90 on December 5, 2015. Kay was the only child of Dominick & Felicia Santangelo, a politically prominent couple of North Hudson. Her father, a lawyer, died at an early age and her mother was the registrar of Vital statistics for West New York, NJ for 45 years and was extremely active in multiple charities, professional organizations and was a community activist; it was she who Kay would take as her role model. After attending Fordham University, Kay married Richard A. Nest, a future partner in Deloitte, Touche, in 1950 and moved to Fort Lee in 1959 both of them making a commitment to the town and its people. That devotion has spanned better than half a century. Kay would get involved politically early on and was involved in local and county government from Burt Ross thru Mark Sokolich. She and her husband, Dick stepped up to leadership positions, he becoming Mayor, Chairman of the Democratic Party and Parking Authority Chairman all in Fort Lee until his sudden death in March of 2000. Because everyone recognized Kay in her own right as being a community leader, she was appointed to the Chairperson position of the Democratic Party, the Parking Authority and Housing Authority. Mrs. Nest never said no to Fort Lee in any of its causes, endeavors or charities. Kay energetically volunteered her time to Deborah, Lions, Rotary Clubs and UNICO. She was Chair Emeritus of Fort Lee Democratic Party, Parking Authority and Housing Authority, Vice – Chair Bergen County Democratic Party & the Fort Lee Film Commission; Chairman of The Fort Lee Senior Center, Board Member of Bergen Co. Housing Authority, NJ Casino Commission and Former member of the Board of Governors of Palisades General Hospital. Kay is survived by her cherished and devoted son Richard B. Nest. All are asked to join in the celebration of Kay’s Life Tuesday December 8, 2015 from 3:00 – 8:00 pm at the Frank A. Patti & Kenneth Mikatarian Funeral Home 327 Main Street, opposite the Fort Lee Library. Her Funeral will leave Wednesday 10:15 am for a Mass of Resurrection in the Main Madonna RCC at 11:00 am followed by the entombment in Madonna Mausoleum. Kay, I will miss you. I cherish the 40 years years I have known you.You will always be in my prayers.
Having been friends for 45 years, we laughed and cried and did outrageous things in our years together. A friendship like ours is hard to come by and hurts that much more when you lose someone like Kay. In the years I've known her, I've been with her when she buried her mother, her Aunt Tess.and of course Dick. But this is one wake I'll have to go to to say goodbye to someone who watched my children and grandchildren grow up to be great young women. They loved "Auntie Kay". So our friend, Kay, we'll go on without you, but you'll always be in our hearts and in our prayers. The void will be hard to fill.
So sorry for your loss- she was such a sweet woman!
Heaven received a Beautiful Angel today, how Blessed they are to have you, how sad for us who knew and loved you!
Rest in peace "Sweet Kay" you will be sorely missed!
So sorry for your loss.
My condolences,
Michael Rubino
I was shocked and saddened to learn of Kay's passing. My thoughts and prayers are with her son, my dear friend, Richard. I will always recall the great times we had at the shored in Fort Lee with Kay, Dick, Richard, Felicia, and Aunt Tess.
Richard, I hope that the memories you have will make this difficult time for you a little easier to bear.
Richard We are very sad to hear of the passing of your Mother Kay. We visited Kay on Thanksgiving evening with my son Jonathan and my sister Carole. She was so happy to see us especially my son Jonathan. Your Mother was a beautiful person with a big heart. My Parents Emily and John Kasenchak thought highly of your Parents. My sister Carole was concerned about your Mother and is devastated by the loss of her friend. We are sorry for your loss and the town of Fort Lee will truly miss her .RIP KAY!! You are a angel now!! Love, Karen, Mark, & Jonathan Mandel
The impassioned viewpoints exhibited in your work are truly outstanding.
