John Bucich, age 85, of Park Ridge, New Jersey and formerly of Leonia, passed away peacefully on September 27, 2024. Predeceased by his parents Mark and Albina Bucich. Loving brother to Rosemarie (Bucich) Bracco and her husband Leo. Cherished uncle to Jennifer (Bracco) Sanborn and her husband Craig and Sabrina (Bracco) McCarthy and her husband Brian. Beloved grand uncle to Luke, Liana, Stephanie and Emily, and wonderful cousin and friend to so many.
John was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. He obtained his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Brooklyn Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn, New York. After moving with his family to Fort Lee, New Jersey, he worked as an electrical engineer for Gruman Aerospace in New York and was involved in a project to design the first lunar module for NASA. Later in his career he became a stockbroker.
John was born with a degenerative muscular disease (CMT) that impacted his mobility, but he was blessed with intelligence, patience and a warm heart. He developed lifelong friendships with many who knew him. He was an avid chess player from childhood and enjoyed playing well into his 80s and was a devoted fan of the Giants and Mets. John was a longtime member of the Saint George Society of New York and a member and secretary of the Leonia Lions Club for over 20 years. He moved into a nursing home in his last few years and quickly became the spokesperson and advocate for the patients. He was beloved by all who spent time with him.

The family will receive family and friends on Thursday, October 3rd from 4:00-8:00pm at the Frank A. Patti and Kenneth Mikatarian Funeral Home 327 Main Street “opposite the Fort Lee Library”. The family will gather on Friday, October 4th at 10 am. The funeral will leave at 10:30 am to celebrate his mass at the Madonna R.C. Church On The Hill, 2070 Hoefleys Lane, Fort Lee, NJ.
