Beloved patriarch, loyal friend

Michael Nicholas, 83, passed away October 9, 2018. Born in 1934 in Queens, N.Y., Mike was a longtime resident of Leonia, N.J. before moving to Ridgefield Park in 1986. Mike proudly served as a Marine in the Korean War. When he returned home, he became a banker and worked for Emigrant Savings for over 40 years. Active in his community, he was a member of the Leonia Men’s Club and Leonia Community Chest, and he was a Little League Coach. He was an avid golfer and an excellent cook, and he loved reading and using his computer. Mike enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and traveling with family and friends. He will be missed and remembered fondly forever.

Mike was predeceased by his wife of 56 years, Joan, in 2015. Surviving him are his sister Martha, brother David (Paula), sons John (Mary), Kenneth (Athena), Daniel (Dawn), and Gary (Sharon); ten grandchildren, Christina, Amalia, Michael, Jeffrey, Mark, Ashley, Rachael, Julia, Carly, and Danny, one great-grandson, Liam, and many beloved extended family members and friends.

Friends are invited to join in a celebration of Mike’s life at The Presbyterian Church, 181 Fort Lee Road, Leonia, N.J. on Sunday, November 25 at 1:30 p.m., followed by a repast. As our first neighbors and immediate friends upon moving to Leonia in 1966, we have much to share and reflect upon. Your loving parents were not only the backbone of your family but role models as well. There is much to be thankful for. May the memories of your life with them continue to nourish you always.

    We are deeply saddened to learn about the passing of your beloved father, Michael Nicholas. We know the loss is profound and we share in your mourning.
    Throughout the years, we shared many family events, and have many fond memories of Mr. Nicholas who was "the pillar "of the Nicholas family.
    Mr. Nicholas, was a true gentleman and family man who was a dedicated husband, brother, father, father-in law, proud, & much loved grandfather.
    The Angelakos family will deeply miss him and may his memory here on earth, be everlasting!
