Betty Luther (1924 – 2025)
Betty Luther, a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on January 30, 2025, at the age of 100. Born to Caroline Williams and John Wesley Roe on September 14, 1924, in Edgewater, Betty was a lifelong resident of the town she cherished deeply.
Betty was preceded in death by her loving husband, Ed, with whom she shared 50 wonderful years of marriage before his passing in 1995. She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Kathy. Betty is survived by her children: Sandy Roig (Ray), Eddy (Rose), and Carol DeRito. Her family grew with 9 grandchildren: Keith, Eddie, Alison, Erin, Adam, Megan, Keri, Hali, and Kaylyn, as well as 15 great-grandchildren, all of whom she adored and who brought endless joy to her life.
Betty was a sister to Donald, Charles, and Jack. She spent her entire life in Edgewater, most of it in the house her father built. There, she created a home filled with love and lasting memories for her family. Her house was the heart of many celebrations, holidays, and gatherings—every event was made brighter by Betty’s warmth and hospitality. She became a beloved figure in the community, known as the “friendly lady who sits at her window on River Road, waving to friends and passersby.”
In her free time, Betty enjoyed watching Wheel of Fortune, doing puzzles and cheering on the New York Yankees. Her warmth and positive spirit will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
