Captain John P. La Raia Sr.

John LaRaia, age 93, of Brick, NJ, formally of Englewood Cliffs, passed away peacefully in his home on Thursday, October 3rd, surrounded by members of his family. He was an Englewood Cliffs Police Officer, retiring as a Captain.

Beloved husband of Barbara nee; Roylance. Devoted father of son John LaRaia and his wife Patricia; son William (Bill) LaRaia and his wife Lisa; son Michael LaRaia and his significant other Viviana Pardo; daughter Janet Puleo and her husband David; son Richard LaRaia and his wife Christina; daughter Judy Stefans and her husband Daniel; and daughter Jean Regan and her husband Timothy. Cherished grandfather of Renee LaRaia, Mishelle Whiting and husband Andrew, Jason LaRaia, Roxanne LaRaia, William LaRaia, Michael LaRaia and his wife Mikela, Ali LaRaia, Grace Puleo-Rescigno and her husband Peter, David John Puleo, Lucas Puleo, Jake Puleo, Isabel LaRaia, Clark LaRaia, Bryan Stefans, Dylan Stefans, Jessica Roschel and her husband Christian, Timothy Joseph Regan, Nicholas Regan and his fiancée Kelly Cofrancesco. Great-Grandfather to Samantha Peterson; Emmitt, Quinton, AJ, Tierney, Deirdre and Mairead Whiting; Marli and Madi LaRaia, Mauro Rescigno, and Estelle Roschel.  Dear brother of Carol Nielson.

He was a pillar in the Community where he was involved in the following

United States Army – 72nd Battalion during the Korean War
Englewood Cliffs Police Department sworn in September 1, 1958 Retiring
as Captain serving 32 years.
Englewood Cliffs Man of the Year in 1971
New Jersey Police Benevolent Association (PBA Local 45)
Englewood Cliffs Police Baseball Clinic (Founding Member) now the
Fred H. Witte Baseball Clinic.

The family will receive their friends on Sunday 3:00 – 7:00 PM at the Frank
A. Patti and Kenneth Mikatarian Funeral Home 327 Main Street “opposite
the Fort Lee Library”. The funeral will leave Monday at 10:00 AM for the
celebration of his funeral mass in Holy Trinity R.C Church at 10:30 AM.
