Dorothy Joan Thompson

Our Mother, Dorothy "Joan" Thompson (Jones), Born in Llanddulas, North Wales on New Year's Eve in 1930 the 7th and youngest child of Thomas and Blodwen Jones (nee Griffiths). Joan was raised in Wales, Great Britain during WW II and came to the United States when she was 14. Her family settled in Jackson Heights, Queens, where she worked as a legal secretary for Chicago Pneumatic in Manhattan. She met the love of her life, Richard Bradford Thompson, at Church and they were married on February 20th, 1954. They started their married life in Fort Lee, NJ where they raised their three surviving children Diane C Stamberger, Beverly J Salierno (Tom) and Douglas W Thompson. She is survived by her grandchildren, David Thompson, Paul Salierno (Chrissie), James Salierno (Lauren), Jennifer Thompson, and her step-grandchildren Sasha Stamberger, Cari Vainella (Chris) and Cody Stamberger (Elodie). She also leaves behind her loving 9 great-grandchildren and her dear brother-in-law, Don Thompson (Mary). In Fort Lee, Joan and Richard were very active in numerous town activities including the organization and running of the town tennis clinics in the 1970s and 1980s, and at Bethany United Methodist Church where she served as secretary for the bulletin, communion server, scripture reader and Elder. Joan and Richard co-produced a tennis record "Learn Tennis with Arthur Ashe" through their company Manhattan Recording Company. Joan will be remembered for her kindness/love of the "unloveable", her winning play in tennis tournaments & the town tennis league, and her beautiful Welsh/British accent. Although we are now filled with sorrow from her passing, we are comforted in knowing that our Mother and our Father have been reunited in Heaven.
