George James Colvin, age 90, of Leonia, NJ sadly passed away on Sunday February 23, 2025. Born on Staten Island, NY, raised in West New York, NJ and recently of Leonia, NJ.
George was a beloved father to Thomas Colvin, Terrie and her husband Robert Birk, and Bonnie and her husband John Thorn. Cherished grandfather, lovingly known as Pop Pop to Katie Thorn. Also survived by his sister, Alice Nemechek and brother, Arthur Colvin. Predeceased by his adored wife Marilyn, brothers, William, Daniel, Edward and Donald and sister, Evelyn. Fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews and dear friends.
George was born on Staten Island, NY to William Colvin and Catherine Lunney. He was raised by his loving aunt and uncle, Alice and Clarence Youtz. Throughout George’s life, he showed a deep commitment to family, a passion for history, and an insatiable curiosity about the past. One of his greatest interests was genealogy. George dedicated many years to tracing family roots, unearthing forgotten stories, and uncovering the rich tapestry of ancestors that shaped his legacy. He loved sharing this knowledge with family and friends, and his meticulous research was an inspiration to all who knew him.
Beyond his love for genealogy, George was known for a passion for volunteering at local community organizations such as Box 54, LDS Family History Center, American Legion and Brookside Cemetery to name a few. He had a natural ability to connect with others, and his warmth and kindness will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
A celebration of George’s life will be held on Saturday March 1st from 9am -11am at the Frank A. Patti and Kenneth Mikatarian Funeral Home 327 Main Street “opposite the Fort Lee Library”.
