Makroulakis, George, age 77, a 60 year resident of Fort Lee, passed peacefully on Wednesday March 24, 2021. Born in New York City, he moved to Fort Lee during his high school years. George was known to most as G. Mak or Mr. Mak. He was a graduate of Fort Lee High School Class of 1960. After high school, George attended the New York Aeronautical School where he perfected his craft as a mechanic. George then joined the military and was a proud veteran of the US. Navy. After completing his tour in the Navy, George began his career in the automotive industry. Starting out as a mechanic for Volkswagen, George’s hard work, determination and devotion earned him the position of Vice President of Operations of Penske Automotive Group. George was a respected member of the community and loved giving back to the town he called his home, Fort Lee. He was a member and former Chief of the Fort Lee Fire Department Company #2, and was a Special Police Officer #390 for the Fort Lee Police Department. George was also a volunteer baseball coach for the Fort Lee National Little League. He served on the Fort Lee Board of Education and the Fort Lee Board of Adjustments. He was also a member and current Senior Vice Commander of the Fort Lee VFW Post #2342. George was a pillar to the Fort Lee community and will be missed by all that knew him.

A beloved husband of 57 years to Jane (nee: Ritchy). Devoted father of Greg and his wife Nanci and Jay and his wife Jennifer. Cherished Papou of Kyle, Tyler, Jillian, and Jace. Adored uncle of Christine Caruso.

The family will receive friends on Sunday from 2-6 pm at the Frank A. Patti and Kenneth Mikatarian Funeral Home 327 Main Street (opposite the Fort Lee Library). If attending the funeral, please gather for the funeral procession on Monday at 10:45 am in the funeral home parking lot. The procession will leave at 11am. Interment will take place at the George Washington Memorial in Paramus at 11:30 am.
