George Raymond Valmonte

George Raymond Valmonte, enjoyed life with his wife of 52 years. He kept a positive attitude throughout his life, even when his illness befell him. He enjoyed helping others and often found time to make a special dish for one of his friends or family members; especially when he wanted to help cheer them up.

He enjoyed cooking in general, but he was renowned for his delicious brownies. When he wasn’t tinkering with a recipe, he was tinkering with his model airplane collection. He collected and modeled many a navy aircraft and science fiction air ships. His collection of Star Wars, Star Trek, and Battlestar Gallactica air craft was the envy of Trekkies and many sci fi enthusiasts.

His love of music started as a young man and lead him to become a base guitar player in a High School band. He kept his love of interest in music current with an extensive and diverse music collection. This influenced his distinctive sense of fashion which was reflected in his varied baseball cap collection.

His honesty and loyal character enabled him to have a half a dozen long term friends from his youth, who continued to visit one another and support each other as ailments began to affect them. No matter where his friends moved to, they all found time to stay connected with George and make trips back to NYC to visit with him and Anna.

Wherever he worked, he affected both his customers and colleagues in a positive way, leading him to have a large network of friends and supporters.

He was especially proud of his tenure in the Navy which instilled in him the value of encouraging others around him to ensure that everyone succeeded.

George and Anna fostered five children and adopted two to complete their family of five. Today, they enjoy having 17 grandchildren and one great grandchild. He worked at many jobs, but is best known for his long tenure as a postal worker in the Bronx and as a cook at a senior center.

George was grateful for the new kidney he was blessed to receive over ten years ago, ending his need for dialysis. He is survived by a spouse, three daughters and a brother.
