Paola Castronovo

Castronovo, Paola (nee: Sciortino), age 98, of North Bergen, passed away on Friday, August 16, 2024. Beloved daughter, sister, aunt, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

She was born on April 19, 1926, in Bagheria, Palermo, Sicily, to the late Giuseppe and Marianna (nee: Di Salvo) Sciortino. She married her beloved husband Rosario Castronovo in 1946 and spent 66 years together on this earth. From Sicily to Venezuela, and finally to New Jersey, her life was a testament to her love of her family, cooking, dressmaking, and faith.

Paola was the loving mother to Pietra and her husband Carl Carboneri and the late Mary Ann and her husband Pasquale Fusco. Devoted grandmother to Daniela and her husband Jonas, Dino and his wife Lesley, Marc Antony, Alex, and Andrew and his wife Andrea, and great-grandmother to Liam, Ava, Max, Dylan, and Luca. Cherished sister to Grazia Vitone, Pietra Latona, Antonia Ranaudo, and the late Carlo Sciortino.

The family will receive their friends on Tuesday, August 20 between 4:00 – 8:00 PM at the Frank A. Patti and Kenneth Mikatarian Funeral Home 327 Main Street “opposite the Fort Lee Library.” The funeral mass is on Wednesday, August 21 at 10:30 AM at St. John the Evangelist Church in Leonia. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made in Paola’s name to her favorite charity, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (www.stjude.org).
