Robert “Bobby” DeGast, 47, of Fort Lee, New Jersey, passed away at his childhood home on February 4, 2025. Born in 1977, Bobby graduated from Fairleigh Dickinson University and worked in his family’s IHOP restaurants. We challenge you to find a more passionate sports fan – of any sport really. But specifically, Bobby was a devoted New York Yankees fan (we wonder if maybe he’s pleading with some higher ups about the Soto situation) and – at times, the unlovable – New York Jets.
Bobby was known for his kindness, gentle nature, and patience, especially with children who loved their Uncle Bob. A movie aficionado, Bobby had encyclopedic knowledge of every comic book-turned-movie storyline. The grandson of soldiers who fought the Nazis, loved this country, and achieved the American dream, Bobby had committed to investing in improving his health and was hopeful for the future.
Bobby is survived by his father, Peter; his sister, Darlene Morales, and her husband, Eddie; and their daughter, Liliana. He is also survived by his mother’s sisters, who often act like Bobby’s mother, Irene Corbin and Darlene Murray; and his uncle Michael Murray. Dear cousin of Kim and Hal, Steven, Suzanne and Rocco, and Michael Jr. and Yvonne.
Bobby is predeceased by his mother, Portia DeGast; uncle, Donald Corbin; and grandparents, Sue and Frank Carfora and Jane and Gerrit DeGast – all of whom, we’re sure, are both thrilled to see him and wondering why the heck he had to join them so soon. (Likely another matter being taken up with the Higher Ups Complaints Department.)
A viewing will be held on Friday, February 7, from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Frank A. Patti Funeral Directors, located at 327 Main Street, Fort Lee, NJ 07024.
The funeral service will take place at 9:30 AM on Saturday, February 8, at Madonna Church, 340 Main Street, Fort Lee, NJ 07024.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Fort Lee Athletic Club’s high school scholarship program… and to anyone who can help the Jets because, my goodness, they need help.
Bobby’s warmth and generosity touched many lives. We are heartbroken but laughing through the tears… as Bobby would want it. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
