In Loving Memory of Sonia Setrakian
October 29, 1949 – April 2, 2021
Sonia Vosgueritchian was born in Alexandria, Egypt. She was the daughter of loving parents, Alexander and Arshalous Vosgueritchian, and sister to four siblings – Vivi, Maggie, Hasmig, and Yervant. She was a devoted wife to her husband, Zarmair Setrakian, and loving mother to three children – Ani, Alice, and Armen, and loving mother-in-law to Thomas, Manny, & Carrie. She leaves behind 7 grandchildren – Andrew (married to Sara), Aliana, Matthew, Julia, Logan, Kaden, and Connor. She was smart, decisive, strong, courteous, and loving to all her family.
Sonia started her education in Boghosian Armenian School in Alexandria, then went to St. George Commerical College, where she graduated in 1966, with skills in bookkeeping, typing, and stenography. Sonia was proficient in 4 languages – Armenian, Arabic, French and English. She immigrated from Egypt to Montreal in 1966 and worked for a Canadian silk manufacturing company until she married Zarmair at Sts. Vartanantz Church in 1968 and moved to Cliffside Park. She always had a very strong work ethic, working at State-Wide Excess and Surplus as secretary and bookkeeper, a secretary at National Community Bank, DJ Rayburn, and Annan Stockleburg, and worked for Parsekian & Soloman as a paralegal and office manager. As a young mother, she worked full time and raised 3 children, always putting her family first. She instilled in them the importance of loyalty and devotion to family.
She was a member of Sts. Vartanantz Church, a member of the Ladies Guild and Choir, ARS Bergen Armenouhi Chapter, and a member of Hamazkayin of NJ, at one time serving as chairlady of the chapter. Her hobbies were cooking, crocheting, and baking (her Choreg was famous). She always loved to listen to Armenian music. Sonia has been an important and dedicated member of Sts.Vartanantz for over 50 years.
