Vitangelo Bavaro

With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Vitangelo Bavaro of Fort Lee, NJ. The devoted husband, cherished father, doting grandfather and esteemed baker found Heaven on April 10, 2024 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Giovinazzo, Bari, Italy, August 7, 1957 to Raffaella Bavaro and the late Angelo Bavaro.

Vitangelo embodied the essence of resilience and hard work from an early age, immigrating to the United States from Italy when he was a teenager. In 1990, his American Dream was realized when he opened Vitangelo’s Bakery in Edgewater, NJ with his wife by his side. He was proud to serve his community traditional Italian delicacies and poured his heart into every cake and pastry.

Outside the bakery, Vitangelo enjoyed trips to Cape May with his family, connecting with loved ones in his hometown in Italy and completing house and yard projects. There was nothing he couldn’t fix with some paint, nails and rope.

Vitangelo is lovingly remembered by his wife of 38 years, Francesca Bavaro. He is also survived by his three children, Raffaella Bavaro, Anna Bavaro Marzello and Angelo Bavaro; his mother; his grandchild, Vincenzo Giuseppe Marzello, and a granddaughter on the way; and his three sisters, Consiglia Ruffa, Carmela Lopreiato and Nicoletta Cavalieri.

Family and friends may join us on Monday, April 15, 2024, from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at Frank A. Patti & Kenneth Mikatarian Funeral Home, 327 Main Street, Fort Lee, NJ. A funeral mass will follow at 11 a.m. at Madonna Church, 2070 Hoefley’s Lane, Fort Lee, NJ.
