Sook Kyung (Sue) Kim, née Chang, age 81, of Fort Lee, New Jersey, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday November 18, 2020. Born in Seoul, South Korea, she immigrated to the United States in 1965 with her late husband, Dr. Eun Tae Kim. They raised their three children in northeast Pennsylvania where he practiced general surgery until his death in 1983.
Sue was the devoted mother of Deborah (Jeffrey), Edward (Ragan), and Michael (Sara), cherished grandmother of Christina, Kevin, Nicholas, Caroline, Carter, Kaitlyn, Madelyn and Rhys, and dear sister of Grace (Yong), brother of Yoohun (Boyoung). She is preceded in death by two brothers, Hae Kyun and Gi Kyun.
Sue will be remembered as one of the area's most prominent party planners as she literally fed thousands of people in the tri-state area. People will always fondly remember her for building a strong sense of community through her delicious and beautifully presented Korean food. After spending her life dedicated to raising her children, Sue began her career at the age of 50 in the banquet department at the Palisadium Restaurant, managing weddings, birthday parties, reunions, and corporate events. When she turned 65, as most people her age think of retirement, Sue was just getting started as she founded SK Party Planners and successfully ran her party planning and catering business for the next fifteen years. Her largest client was the United Nations, and she was even awarded the UN Vendor of the Year. Sue celebrated her 80th birthday and retirement in style as only a party planner preparing her own party would. Her life remained just as active in retirement as she learned to play bridge, began to take exercise classes, was active at her church, and enjoyed more time with friends and family. Only cancer could slow Sue down. But now heaven can rejoice because Sue Kim has arrived to plan parties up there.
Religious services will be held at the Bethany Methodist Church in Wayne, New Jersey on Wednesday November 25, 2020 at 10 am. Burial by interment will follow in the family plot at Our Lady of Sorrows Cemetery at Greenfield Township, PA.
